Rosh Chodesh
“Sorry, honey, today I can’t cook or do laundry. You’ll have to do it.”

How many of us can imagine not only saying this to our husbands once a month, but also letting them know that this is in the Code of Jewish Law!

According to the Mishnah, Jewish women were given Rosh Chodesh (the Festival of the New Moon) as a reward for their refusal to participate in the Golden Calf episode. Therefore, it is a custom for Jewish women not to do certain types of work on this day.

Today, across the USA and all around the world, many women get together on Rosh Chodesh for study and prayer, for socializing and spiritual renewal. Our own Kol Tikvah Rosh Chodesh Group is now in its fourth year. We meet once a month for a short service, followed on a different book of the Hebrew Bible.

Please note that the Rosh Chodesh group is open to women only.  Locations vary so be sure to check site for updated information.
