THE PREKINDERGARTEN PROGRAM
The Prekindergarten program
acknowledges the significance of preparation of this time in the child’s
academic life, the year before formal learning is begun. This program builds
upon previous knowledge and extends the learning within the social, emotional,
physical, intellectual, and Judaic development of the individual child.
A combination of established
curriculums is at the core of a strong academic program in the Prekindergarten.
The Land of the Letter People is a respected; research based phonic
awareness, reading readiness, instructional program. This program guides the
emergent reader through the beginnings of literacy development, giving the child
all the necessary skills needed to unlock oral and written language.
Mathematics Their Way teaches the child how to think “mathematically” and to
understand the “numberness” of numbers. The goal of this program is for the
child to gain insight into mathematical patterns through the use of concrete
materials.
The Judaic curriculum seeks
to enable children to become curious and creative learners. A strong Jewish
identity, a sense of belonging to the Jewish community and transition into
Hebrew School and congregational life is our goal. Towards this end, our school
will nurture within the child a love of Jewish learning, a fascination with
Jewish holidays and life cycle events, and a passion for approaching the world
in a Jewish way.
The child’s day involves
centers of learning, which encourage social interaction, exploration, and
expressiveness. The math, science, art, writing, dramatic play, blocks and
computer centers integrate the content, reinforce concepts and extend the
child’s understanding of the world.
Our entire curriculum,
secular and Jewish, is aimed toward enhancing the lives of the children and the
families that we serve.
