6th Annual Mitzvah Day

Aston
Gardens - Alan
Pollack, Debbie Hafetz & Harold Price entertained the senior residents
with a phenomenal show, highlighting Kol Tikvah’s talented singers,
pianists & performers.
Becca’s
Closet - Katie Skopp
organized 9 young ladies to assist in outfitting under served girls for
their prom so that they could look & feel beautiful.
Jewish
Family Services - 4
families helped pack over 1000 Passover boxes for needy Jewish families,
Holocaust survivors & seniors.
Hatikvah
House - Kim Fields
organized 4 families to paint, scrapbook & play board games with
developmentally challenged residents.
Broward
Outreach - Meryl
Guerrero arranged for 5 families to serve and prepare lunch for a local
homeless shelter. The group also donated bags of bagels from our
breakfast.
SOS
Children’s Village -
Mark Solomon coordinated an
informational session about foster care & football game with the
residents for 15 teen boys.
US Troops
- Nat & Nancy
Nussbaum set up a box packing operation of supplies for our soldiers
with military precision. Over 125 boxes were packed & shipped.
In Jacobs
Shoes - Harlene &
Murray Zweig organized a group of dedicated volunteers to build 15
shelving units & sort 1500 books for under-served pre-schools &
classrooms from K-9th grade.
Eyes of
an Angel Dog -Alex
Spessot organized several activities to assist this rescue dog
operation. Volunteers brought in much needed dog supplies, made “adopt
me” bandana’s, prepared “goodie bags” , walked, fed & gave a lot of love
to the dogs.
The MacLeod family adopted Bella, an adorable English
bulldog - mazel tov!
Race for
Hunger - Nina Hersch
set up a mini-marathon, complete with a warm-up, medals & granola bars
for close to 50 participants who ran or walked 100’s of laps
to fill Broward County’s depleted food pantries.

Kol
Tikvah’s GREEN project -
Manuel Mesa with the help
of 5 families planted flowers & laid sod to make Kol Tikvah as beautiful
on the outside as it is in the inside.
Butterfly
Project- Susan &
Rachel Kahn set up a calm & inviting atmosphere for volunteers to create
over 100 beautifully decorated butterflies to be delivered to the
Houston Holocaust Museum exhibit.
Kolot/Women
in Distress/Broward Outreach -
Stephanie Kaufman set up an
assembly line operation to create close to 200 emergency toiletry bags
for women who are victims of domestic violence & men at a local homeless
shelter.
Special thanks to the entire Kol Tikvah staff, Men’s
Club & Sisterhood. Also, thank you to our tireless volunteers for your
hard work & generous donations of supplies. This will enable us to make
a cash contribution to all of the above charities, desperate for funds
on behalf of Congregation Kol Tikvah. Consult the Social Action page on
the Temple website for information on how to continue doing “mitzvahs”
all year long - don’t wait for Mitzvah day!
