Shabbat Attendance Requirement &
Procedure
One of the
goals of our school is to prepare the children to participate
comfortably in temple life. This includes worship.
By attending services, our children are able to experience the
skills they learn in class. This will prepare them for
“real life” encounters with prayer. We find that students who
attend services on a regular basis are more comfortable at
Shabbat Services, able to follow along, and, in many instances,
have contributed greatly to the service itself with prayers and
songs.
Kol Tikvah
School of Judaic Studies students are required to attend Shabbat
Services at Kol Tikvah in order to give them the opportunity to
celebrate Shabbat with Rabbi Boxman, Cantorial Soloist
Malcolm Arnold, and the Congregation. The Shabbat Service
attendance requirement must be fulfill only at Congregation Kol
Tikvah. It is our goal to have our families become
comfortable and familiar with our temple family and the worship
service of our temple.
We invite you to make Shabbat a "Family Affair." Children learn
best by example. Try attending Shabbat Services together
throughout the year and create Jewish memories. Your
children will see that being Jewish and practicing Judaism is
important to you. This will have a strong impact on your
children. We urge your family to attend Shabbat Services
together as often as possible. This provides our students
with great spiritual knowledge, and allows them to really feel a
part of our congregation and the Jewish community at large.

Shabbat Service Attendance
Procedure
There will
be 2 file boxes labeled (A-L, & M-Z) Friday Evening (SALMON
index cards) and/or Saturday Morning (BLUE
index cards) on the table just outside the Sanctuary.
Alphabetically inside the file box will be an index card with
EACH child’s name. When students attend Shabbat Services,
they are to find their card, and hold onto it. At the
conclusion of the service, they are to take their file card to
Rabbi Boxman, Cantor Arnold or Debbie Hafetz, say Shabbat
Shalom, and give the card to this person.
A list
will be maintained throughout the year of each student’s Shabbat
Service Attendance. Periodically parents will receive
notification about their child’s Shabbat attendance from their
child’s teacher. Teachers will contact parents if a
student is not on track with their Shabbat Service attendance. |
